Twenty-seven-year-old Jeevan Reddy is on the verge of losing his eyesight. But, remarkably, he is not a worried man. He is employed with Infosys in Bangalore, has learnt how to lead a normal life and is planning to get married.

Another Bangalore-based techie, Akhilesh Malani, is developing an Android app that can recognise and read Indian currency notes for visually impaired people like him. Born in Rajasthan and having studied in Chennai, Malani lost one eye at the age of 12 after a cricket ball tore his retina. He lost his other eye two years later as the infection spread.

Now 25, he is with a local technology firm, Prakat Solutions. He does software testing and leads an ‘accessibility testing initiative’ that checks products for their disabled-friendliness.
